Presenter and YouTuber Conor McGilligan claims that Leeds United have a ‘huge problem’ whenever they take the lead this season.
The Lowdown: Leeds’ defensive issues are a big concern
Jesse Marsch’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League, but they’re only two points above the relegation zone, with plenty of clubs battling for survival.
The Whites haven’t struggled for goals this season, but their problem has been at the back. Leeds have conceded 31 league goals in the 2022/23 campaign, with only three sides letting in more.
In their match against West Ham United, Leeds took the lead, and after later going behind, they were able to bring the game level and take a point against the Hammers thanks to a goal from Rodrigo.
The Latest: McGilligan claims lack of awareness is a ‘huge problem’ for LUFC
Speaking on his YouTube channel, McGilligan admitted he was ‘confused’ as to why Marsch isn’t able to communicate his message of how to kill teams off whenever Leeds takes the lead.
He stated: “I am completely confused as to why Leeds are seemingly unable to get that message throughout the entire squad. There seems to be a breakdown, a lack of awareness of what Jesse wants after Leeds take the lead, and I think that’s a problem. I think that’s a huge, huge problem.”

The Verdict: A win in the FA Cup could be a huge boost for Leeds’ confidence
Leeds travel to Wales where they will play Cardiff City in the FA Cup this weekend, and considering their position in the Premier League, a win would be a massive chance to take some momentum into next weekend’s clash against Aston Villa.
The only comfortable league win Leeds have had in the 2022/23 campaign was their 3-0 at home against Chelsea in August, with all other victories by fine margins.
A dominant victory in the FA Cup could show the fans and players that they have the ability to completely control their opposition, which could be a factor that helps them surge away from relegation.
The Bluebirds sit only two points off the relegation zone in the Championship, so the Whites are definitely the favourites going into the fixture – so any repeat of the problems McGilligan discusses will not go down well.
