The showdowns between Celtic and Rangers are a huge part of the Scottish football calendar, but this Sunday’s Premiership clash has been made that much tastier due to the managers involved.
Rangers now have Steven Gerrard at the helm, and it is a big test for the novice considering this is his first managerial job since retiring from professional football.
The former midfielder has had a positive start to life at Ibrox having overseen 11 matches unbeaten.
A huge challenge awaits him at Parkhead this Sunday as he takes on a team whose manager is unbeaten in his first 11 fixtures against Rangers.
The major talking point heading into the contest centres around Gerrard and Rodgers as the former worked under the Irishman at Liverpool for three years.
The Celtic manager, though, is not focusing on the link between the two coaches, but rather on the game itself.
Rodgers told Celtic TV:
“I am looking forward to seeing Steven. He is a good guy, we worked well together at Liverpool. I don’t necessarily see it as a dugout battle, I see it as the teams on the field. Whatever coach or manager is there at the time, it is irrespective to me.
“It is about looking at them and how they play and preparing the team in order to win the game. That’s what I have tried to do in the 11 games against Rangers in my two years here. So that’s the focus really. Try to analyse them the best we can.”
