England boss Gareth Southgate named Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks in his starting XI for Sunday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.
Winks has only started one Premier League match for Tottenham this season, but was handed his international debut on Sunday as Southgate rung the changes following the clash with Slovenia on Thursday night.
There is no question that the 21-year-old has a bright future in the game, and his progression has now been recognised by the England national team.
As expected, Tottenham tweeted about their midfielder before Sunday’s clash with Lithuania, and the response section was filled with praise from Spurs supporters for a player that is starting to become an important figure for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
There is no pressure on England against Lithuania having already booked their spot in the finals of next summer’s tournament, but Spurs midfielder Winks will be looking to leave a positive impression.
